Scaling, Debridement and Root Planing
The first step in the treatment of Periodontitis involves the removal of bacterial deposits under the gum on the root surface. This is called scaling or debridement.
In the deeper areas where you cannot reach we meticulously clean the pockets and prepare the root surface to allow healing to begin, this is known as root planing.
Local anaesthesia may be required to ensure a comfortable experience and it may take a few visits to our rooms to complete treatments. These are the non-surgical procedures performed by Dr McElhinney with the assistance of her expertly trained hygienists.
We understand that our patients are anxious and our aim is to be as gentle as possible to ensure that your experience will be pain free.
