Dr. Gerrardine McElhinney
Dr McElhinney qualified as a Dentist at University Dental School and Hospital Cork (UCC). She practiced as a General Dentist in England before returning to take a post graduate training position in Oral Surgery at UCC. She continued to work at the Dental Hospital Oral Surgery department and subsequently in the Restorative Department.
In 1990 she applied to do a Masters programme at The Royal London Hospital and was interestingly interviewed by the renowned Perth Periodontist Dr Sally Joyston Bechells; who was an eminent and well respected senior member of the department at that time. Gerrardine was accepted into the program, was taught and mentored by some of the worlds’ most eminent Periodontists. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Periodontology from the University of London in September 1992.
On returning to Cork, she became a part time member of the Academic and Teaching Staff in Periodontology at the University Hospital and also ran a very successful private periodontal practice. During the years that followed she was involved in treating patients, research programmes and postgraduate teaching with both the Dental School and the Post Graduate Medical and Dental Board.
Having had many wonderful holidays in Perth, she and her family emigrated to Australia in 2004; and in the following year began to practice as a specialist Periodontist at 39 Colin Street.
